Freezer Organization / Eat More Veggies - WFMW (III)

It's Wednesday again! I missed last week's because of exams, but I wrote this post on Sunday to prepare for this week :)

This week I wanted to share how I organize my freezer. I live in a 2-bedroom apartment and I have a tiny freezer that I share with my roommate. I love buying frozen vegetables in bulk, but I find the bags really awkward to put in the freezer. On top of that, with not a lot of time on my hands, I don't always enjoy fishing out the huge bag of veggies to portion myself a little bit to eat, then figure out how much water I need to add, etc.

Frozen food boxes also come in a bunch of different sizes that don't always fit nicely together, and since I have limited space, but love having frozen food on hand (especially during exams!), here's how I worked it out:

The awkward boxes are eliminated, and it's a much more accessible environment in there! If I need instructions however (eg. the fish sticks in the top two containers on the left require different times in the oven), so I don't forget or get them mixed up, I cut off the instructions part (and the nutritional value for all of you Weight Watcher fans out there!) and put it in a snack-sized ziploc bag on the side of my fridge. It's accessible, yet out of the way, and it just takes a second to find the right one.

This way, I can just pull out one serving of veggies at a time and it's easier to manage than grabbing the whole bag and needing to measure it out every time. If applicable, I wrote instructions on a post-it and placed it on the top of the tupperware container (eg. add 1tbsp H20, microwave 2 min) If you're doing Weight Watchers (as I was in the fall) you can also write the points value on the top so you don't have to look it up.

So compartmentalizing my freezer? Works for me! Check out more tips on Shannon's blog at:

(Also? Side note? Exactly 12 hours from now I will have COMPLETED MY DEGREE!!!!! So pumped... bedtime now, exam in nine hours haha)

that's a GREAT idea...i'm going to have to implement that immediately for me and my husband (i keep frozen veggies and stuff on stock all the time and hate the "bag clutter" it causes).

I can't believe i never thought of this! I already do something similar with my frig veggies, like celery and carrots. I found that if i cut up my carrots and celery stalks immediately after buying them, and portion them into ziplock baggies, they always get eaten. Before i started that i would always end up with 2-3 (or more) leftover whole carrots or a bag of wilted celery because when we're hungry im too lazy to pull them out and cut them at that exact moment.. :)
